This is one of the primary radios I use. It is small and easy to move between vehicles or put on the ATV. The QYT KT-8900D also has a FM receive function that allows you to listen to FM broadcast stations while in the mountains on a ATV while continuing to monitor for traffic. With all the features this mobile unit provides a lot of bang for its buck. The QYT KT-8900D is CHIRP compatible and has 200 memory channels you can program with custom names and choice to display as a frequency or name on the main screen. With the ability to manually tune and transmit on any frequencies between (134Mhz – 174Mhz) and (400Mhz – 480Mhz) you can monitor many services with just one radio. This radio was one of the easiest radios I have set up using CHIRP, allowing me to change the color of menus, text, tx, rx and the main screen with a drop down menu of colors. Also with the ability to program your own power on screen message you will never forget your callsigns. One of the nicest features that made everything so easy was the provided programming cable that worked out of the box (I already had CHIRP installed for Baofeng programming) it was just plug in and program. The QYT KT-8900D also has a scanning function, you can scan in manual mode or memory bank mode, with the ability to include or exclude any of your 200 memory stored channels. It even has a repeater function making this a great radio for Echolink or AllStarLink nodes. More about using the QYT KT-8900D as a Node on AllStarLink can be found here. The QYT KT-8900D can monitor 4 different frequencies at once making it easy to listen to all the repeaters, simplex and International Space Stations in your area at one time. The cost of this radio is around $80 dollars making it one of the best budget mobiles out there.
